Hershey, Pennsylvania
Located 90 miles from Wilmington, Hershey is within a 2 hour drive. The Hershey Company has Chocolate World - where you will find a free 15 minute factory tour and ticketed 1 hour Factory Works experience and special events for Halloween and Christmas.  They are open every day of the year (except Christmas) beginning mostly at 9am and closing at various times - so click here for the calendar.  We searched every inch of their web site and found no good description of the tours and no mention of what ticket prices are but lots of instructions to give them a call at (717) 534-4900 for more info - quaint but a tad inconvenient.     

Hershey is growing all the time and beside the factory it offers Hershey Amusement Park, ZooAmerica, the Spa at the Hotel Hershey, Golf, Hershey Gardens with their Children’s Garden, HersheyPark Stadium, Star Pavilion and Giant Center.  The amusement park and zoo are open May-September but have seasonal special events. Turn your day trip into a get-away and stay at the grand old Hotel Hershey, the family friendly Hershey Lodge or get back to nature at Highmeadow Campground.

City Pass is ticket package for most major cities in the US including Philadelphia.  It offers discounted admissions - however - they must ALL be used within nine days.  Great for a tourist but not so great for a local family.  If you are still interested or will be traveling to other cities - check them out

Philadelphia Murals
Thanks to the Mural Arts Program, Philadelphia is nationally and internationally recognized as America’s “City of Murals”.  Over the past 20 years they have created over 2600 murals and other works of public art. October is Mural Arts Month but mural tours are available every Saturday from April - October from the Independence Visitor Center at 6th & Market Streets.  Get there 15 minutes early to purchase tickets - it’s $20 for adults, $17 seniors, $10 kids 5-12 and free for under 5.  Tour lasts about 2 hours. The largest mural, Common Threads, is at the intersection of Broad and Spring Garden streets. For an easy family stroll of 8 murals see this link.
